KJB: Matthew Chapter 1 to 8
Chapter 1 in the gospel of Matthew set a new tone for the world humanities class and transitioned us from the old testament to the new testament. Personally I feel like this text was very insightful in giving information on the generations of Jesus Christ, I feel this because the Bible can be very confusing and doesn’t always make the timeframes very clear. Instead this chapter starts right away explaining who Jesus is and explains the generations proceeding and following his lifetime which helped clarify the uncertainty I had as a child with the timeline of Jesus. “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (KJB: Matthew 1:1). This quotation shows that Jesus is truly a prophet and mentions generations proceeding and following Jesus, the reason I chose this quote is because it summarizes who Jesus was and leads to the following verses which speaks about the three sets of fourteen generations within the lineage of Jesus. A part of the chapter that caught my attention was when the Angel spoke to Joseph about Mary being pregnant. “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto mary thy wife, fear not get not take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost” (KJB: Matthew 1:20). This quote is the part of the chapter that caught my eye, it did this by showing how much trust Joseph had in God because usually a wife that cheated would be stoned to death but because of a dream he decided to embrace her. The same part of the book gives me the emotional reaction of uncertainty because if I were to look at the same situation without being wholly faithful I would believe Mary cheated and realistically Joseph would have had his newly wed wife stoned to death for her actions. This text is extremely original and doesn’t remind e of another text rather than the other Gospels which are also retellings of Jesus’ works but through another disciples perspective. This text has supported my beliefs because it is the sacred scripture of my religion and expresses Jesus’ beliefs which I live by because I Identify as a Christian. This work has given me insight to the generations before and after Jesus Christ which I was completely ignorant of because I was only taught about the most important characters within the Bible.
