Week 2

KJB: Genesis; chapters 1 to 3

The first few chapters focus on the story of creation such as how Adam and Eve came to be, and the garden of Eden. This text affected me personally because I have read from it many times due to church as a child, and it is constantly mentioned, also it affects me in a way that its reminded me of the constant questions I had for my faith. One line that caught my eye from the reading was “And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made herself into a women.”(KJB Genesis 1:22) This stood out to me because we are always told to treat people as equals while we can clearly see we are not. If females were considered equal Eve would have came from more than just the rib of the man. In a way this show cases patriarchy in society. Emotionally this work made me very unsteady because I am not sure how to interpret many meanings and also it makes me feel some what sad because of how peaceful life could have been if Eve didn’t eat from the forbidden tree. “But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou latest thereof thou shalt surely die” (KJB Genesis 3:17). According to the quote when Adam and Eve eat from the tree they will gain knowledge and mortality which gives us original sin at birth. This really catches my eye because it was this which gave humanity up and tarnished our relationship with God. This text reminds me of works from that period such as Shakespeare, very old english with words that are sometimes hard to understand/point out. This work helped support my beliefs because i am catholic and as a catholic we follow the KJB stories of creation. This text gave me some new ideas such as getting reconnected with my parish and to always think of my decisions first because the consequence can hurt others.
